The journey
Fourteen to eighteen months, and you will know what comes next at every step.
Here is what happens from the day you apply to the weeks after you deliver. Timings are typical. Your coordinator will give you your own timeline once you are matched.
01
10 minutes
Apply online
Our application checks the basic requirements immediately. If you qualify, you continue to a fuller questionnaire about your health, your pregnancies and your family.
02
Week 1
A conversation with your coordinator
A relaxed call about your life, your support, and what you hope the experience will be. Ask us anything. You are interviewing us too.
03
Weeks 2–6
Screening
With your permission, we collect your pregnancy records. You and the adults in your home complete background checks. We visit your home by video and meet your partner, if you have one.
- Pregnancy and delivery records
- Background checks
- Home and support interview
- Insurance review
04
Weeks 4–8
Your profile, and choosing a family
We write your profile with you. When we present a family, you read their story, and if you would like to, you meet them by video. Nothing is confirmed until you say yes.
05
Months 2–4
Medical and psychological clearance
You visit the parents’ fertility clinic for a medical evaluation, with travel and time off paid. A licensed counselor meets with you, your partner, and then with the parents too.
06
Months 3–5
Your contract
Your own attorney reviews and negotiates your contract. Nothing medical begins until it is signed, the parents have funded escrow, and your insurance is confirmed.
07
Months 4–6
Medications and embryo transfer
About three to four weeks of medications to prepare your body, then a short, painless transfer at the clinic. A blood test about nine to ten days later tells you whether you are pregnant.
08
Months 5–15
Pregnancy
Once a heartbeat is confirmed, your base compensation begins. Around eight to ten weeks, you move from the fertility clinic to your own obstetrician. Your coordinator checks in regularly, and handles every reimbursement.
09
Delivery
The birth
A birth plan agreed in advance with the parents and the hospital. The parents’ legal paperwork is already in place, so you can focus on yourself.
10
After
Recovery
Paid recovery time, counseling if you want it, and contact with the family as agreed. We stay in touch with you for as long as you’d like.
