Angel Heart Surrogacy

Financing

Most families fund surrogacy from more than one source.

Surrogacy is expensive, and costs are spread over many months. Here are the ways families most commonly pay for it, and the questions worth asking about each. Angel Heart Surrogacy receives no payment from any lender or benefits provider.

Sources of funding

Employer family-building benefits

A growing number of employers offer fertility and family-building benefits, often through a benefits platform. Some reimburse part of the cost of surrogacy, usually up to a lifetime maximum. Ask your HR team for the plan document, not just the summary.

Fertility and surrogacy financing

Specialist lenders offer loans for fertility treatment and surrogacy. Compare the interest rate, the fees, and whether funds can be paid into escrow or only to a clinic.

Savings, home equity and family

Many families combine savings with a home equity line or help from relatives. Our payment schedule is published, so you can plan when each amount will be needed.

Grants and assistance programs

Some nonprofit programs offer grants or discounts, including programs for gay fathers and for cancer survivors. Eligibility and amounts vary; we can point you to current programs in your consultation.

Insurance for the pregnancy

If your surrogate's own health plan covers a surrogate pregnancy, you may save a significant amount. We have every plan reviewed by an insurance specialist before you match.

Staged costs

The largest payments, escrow and our match fee, fall after you are matched, typically three to six months after you sign. Your retainer is the only payment due at the start.

Before you borrow

Questions to ask any lender or benefits plan.

  • Does the benefit cover surrogacy, or only fertility treatment for the employee?
  • Is there a lifetime maximum, and does it include egg donation or IVF already used?
  • Will the lender or plan pay an independent escrow company, or only a clinic?
  • What documents are needed for reimbursement, and how quickly is it paid?
  • What happens if the journey pauses, or a second transfer is needed?
